Kino promises to pay the doctor once he sells the pearl. The doctor poisons and then cures Coyotito to make it look like he saved him. As news of the pearl spreads, the town’s priest and the doctor visit Kino and his family, hoping to profit. With the wealth he hopes to gain from the pearl, Kino plans to buy clothes, tools, and weapons as well as to send Coyotito to school. He soon finds an enormous, perfect pearl.
